I have been living in the awesome Central Drakensberg of KZN since 1975.
My husband and I have developed and run Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort and recently our two older sons have taken over the reins.
This has allowed me to concentrate full time on my trail horses and branch into rehabilitation which I have become interested in since qualifying as a Hoof Care Specialist.
I became interested in learning more about hoof care when I was given a horse who, as I realise now, had hugely overrun bars which caused his hoof capsules to deform and I didn't have a clue on how to fix them.
I began reading up on hoof care but the only books that I could find, both here and overseas, addressed fixing the hoof using a shoe and I was not interested in learning how to shoe.
With the advent of internet I eventually came across Dr Strasser's site and the rest is history!
I attended a 5 day clinic in Finland in 2002, a group of us brought Dr Strasser out to South Africa in 2003 and five of us started studying in the September of that year, qualifying in October 2004.
My immediate plan is to qualify as an Instructor so that the course becomes affordable to South African school leavers who can then offer local support to horse owners.
